A Miltown Malbay-born writer has received major recognition in Australia for her acclaimed poetry collection exploring the experiences of Irish women and girls who emigrated during the Great Famine. Dr Anne Casey’s sixth book, Seang (Hungering), published by Ennistymon-based Salmon Poetry, has been Highly Commended in the 2026 New South Wales History Awards, which carry a total prize pool of AUD$85,000.
