Milwaukee leaders consider public electric utility
from WORT 89.9FM Madison · host WORT 89.9FM Madison
Wisconsin’s largest utility provider We Energies is requesting yet another rate hike – their sixth since 2020, if state regulators approve it. Creating a public electric utility could provide some much-needed relief, according to a movement that’s gaining traction in the city of Milwaukee. Meredith Melland is a neighborhoods reporter with the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service. She joined our News Producer Faye Parks to explain how a publicly-owned utility would work – and why the local electrical workers union is already speaking out against the proposal.
