Mindfulness Tools to Inspire Your Path in March 2021

from Viral Mindfulness the Podcast · host Alexander Smith | Mindfulness Teacher

***Sneak Peak Poem*** I'd like to read you one of my original poems inspired by Emily Dickinson's envelope poems. It's March, a brand new month, and I have two ideas for you. TIP ONE: Instead of wrestling in conflict with statements like: "Why am I feeling this way?" Stimulate compassion, paint space, and ask yourself: What am I feeling? What does this feeling feel like? Look like? Taste? Smell? We'll discuss the difference between expressing your feelings and feeling them. TIP TWO: I came across a few notes, in pencil, inspired from a talk by Pema Chödrön about meditation. I've added some of my own words and ideas as well. A Pema-Alexander snack! I thought you might like to chew on these. MEDITATION: 🧘🏽‍♀️Is a process of developing unconditional friendship with yourself. 🧘🏽‍♀️Increases our empathetic relationship with humanity. 🧘🏽‍♀️Is not about feeling good. 🧘🏽‍♀️Is about waking up. 🧘🏽‍♀️Allows us to attend compassionately to ourselves. 🧘🏽‍♀️Teaches us to witness, observe and notice (without judgement). 🧘🏽‍♀️Gets uncomfortable quickly. 🧘🏽‍♀️Benefits with practice. 🧘🏽‍♀️Is not doing, more like being. 🧘🏽‍♀️Encourages a new generation of human beings who sit with pain (#MakeSitHappen) 🧘🏽‍♀️Is making friends with ourselves. 🧘🏽‍♀️Reminds us of humanity's deep seated propensity to avoid pain. 🧘🏽‍♀️Can break open an ego part of us that keeps us looking into a small world. Two words I've learned (and love) from Pema Chödrön are "Begin Again." During meditation, each time you find yourself thinking, planning, feeling, making lists, checking off lists, worrying, i.e. Find your breath, with an exhale or inhale, and focus your attention on the words: begin again. Whisper them to yourself. Begin again.
