So whatever they're absolutely Absolutely beating the breaks off Denver here with 76 bench points and I would assume move with a breakout party in front of the entire country 43 points on 17 shot attempts 12 or 12 in the free-thir line we're holding our breath on Anthony I would we'll get to all these things here, but thank you for joining us for a timber wolves up 3-1 postgame extravaganza here as Producer Declan comes in here spending a bunch of plates Phil Mackie and we will take your comments your questions your takes from the YouTube comments section here a shout out to bricks worth In fact, I hope people enjoy themselves a little bricks worth just down the street from target center before this incredible this gutty playoff victory Over the highly ethical Denver nuggets if nothing else the most ethical hooping team can hold their heads high even in defeat That they went out in ethical fashion the series is not over yet and if Anthony Albert doesn't come back then You know things could get dicey I don't think you're gonna get 40 every night from IO But you might because this podcast has been on the IO train for about three months even before he was a timber wolf But bricks worth we love ourselves some bricks worth Yeah, and if you're interested in Detroit style pizza if you're interested in the nizereed signature hazy IPA Some great dry rub wings and a fun spot to hang out before and after wolves games even for away games people are always there watching games on TV Very close to target center and target field and there's the OG bricks worth in burnsville as well So they play defense at bricks worth right all their beers all their beers play defense, right? They don't play defense as well as the wolves did tonight But they they definitely do play they play defense and then while we're at it here Decks just steps down from bricks worth is that element hotel great spot for an overnight step? Yeah, great spot Whether you're you know coming in for you know They're even gonna be a game six But if there happens to be a game six or if there's playoff games beyond game six or if you're coming in as a twin Fan right I'm looking at the Mariners blue J's coming in a bunch of die hard fans on the twin side Whether you're coming in for a wolves game twins games the element hotel is just steps away from target center and target field and the best part is here at Score north a little 15% discount when you score north calm slash element.
They have Wi-Fi. There's a business center It's a pet friendly hotel to go to score north calm slash element for 15% off your roommate at the element hotel Okay, so we you and I both we wanted to jump in here because the game was pretty much over but a fight broke out So you know No, you'll get in Randall both got ejected with like I don't know like I think a second on the clock There was I'm gonna go Charlie Walton had this on Twitter This broke out and kind of spilled it into the front row of the crowd looks like it's the wolves bench area and it's yokech And Randall absolutely going at it here was there I don't know if there was a punch but it was like as physical with Countless coaches players holy crap staffers. Yeah, joke it's in the middle of coaching staff Yeah, I think that Christian Braun in there and then Julius comes in to kind of help push some of the guys aside and then yet Holy crap. I mean Kyle Anderson's trying to separate yokech.
I've seen a replays to you from even a From yeah, same thing from from CJ Fogler and everyone else holy crap Wow, I do I guess my concern here would be among the injury concerns that we will get to as the wolves go out three games to one Is this gonna lead to like cuz the if you leave the bench for a brawl like you can spend it in the NBA I just wonder you can also get suspended for just fighting in general. Yep, so it would it would be a shame Although, you know what the Joker's at the heart of this the Joker's the one over here spilling over to the wolves But so our guy Judd to just texted you and I just individually what was Jaden thinking and that's it That's very cryptic text from Judd that was a minute ago. Okay, so yeah, we literally jumped in here audience What did Jaden did Jaden the Jaden spark this brawl? Let us know in the comment section here and then we'll and then we'll I mean yokeh Here's the thing yokech has to be so frustrated Literally one of the all-time greatest players who's ever stepped foot on an NBA court and he is getting punked in this series again tonight He basically stopped shooting threes which probably should have happened a few weeks ago just based on his 3.0 In since January I don't think he took a three until midway through the fourth quarter And he put up a couple for the ever he finishes eight for 22 in this game getting absolutely hustled by Rudy go Verra for most of the two and a half So the comments are saying Jaden put up a shot with a second left on on the clock up already by what was that?
16 18 points, so Jaden putting up the shot I agree with you maybe the maybe joker just being like an all-time frustration his team is now literally on the brink of Elimination he is not playing well the team itself in Denver is not playing well I mean dude this isn't this isn't all time amazing rivalry and also awesome spark by me Jaden dude Jaden started this entire thing Yeah, and whether you can say okay like Jaden was just trying to force some gas of course In kerosene on the fire that was already brewing and what was he trying to think he obviously backs it up in game three and Denver's probably again at like an all-time frustration side of like we were the better team we won 12 games 13 games coming in even if you count the game one win We're the better team and now all of a sudden and this is why like I really wanted this series to play out with the Timberwolves being this flip switching team that is so frustrating Let let playoff timberwolves take over and I think that's kind of a little bit of what's factoring in here on the nugget side of My god, we were the hottest team coming into this entire playoffs And now we are literally having to have to win three of the next four games Just to keep our season going if the wolves just don't win one of those games So I'm sure it's a bunch of frustration stuff It's kind of spoiling over and I'm looking at the the wide footage here ESPN put this out here at the end of the game. So yeah, Jaden goes for the layup with I don't like whatever like two seconds left or something. So Jane goes for the layup You'll get you's on the totally other side of the court Yokech comes running over to confront Jaden bumps him right in front of the walls bench and starts kind of shoving him And then the wolves all spilled over and Julius Randall decided it. Oh, you're gonna You're gonna pick up.
How would you like to pick on someone who's like 40 pounds heavier? Who is a little if you think Jaden's crazy Julius Randall don't wake up Julius Randall, right? So but again, listen, I'm sure it was all on the up and up because Denver being the most ethical team in the entire National Basketball Association I'm sure Yokech right now in fairness. Yokech.
He's just playing basketball ethics police officer here You know if you're Jaden, you don't want to be showing up any professional basketball players by making a layup within the constraints of a basketball game And by the way, all Jaden's trying to do is prove like these guys. They'll play defense Look at me. I'm just down here trying to hit some shots on a bad defense So I'm surprised tomorrow. I'm reading throw a heating pad in there to you know, maybe break up the melee and you can't help yourself right?
This is great. This is awesome. I used to respect Denver Nuggets fans But like this whole like ethical Hooper thing like you know, let's what's okay? What's less ethical Jaden McDaniel's making a layup in a basketball game or Nicole Yokech running across to the wolves Bents to shove Jaden McDaniel's into the crowd and start a melee at the end of the game It's also possible that this is the NHL thing and you used to cover hockey a lot closer to decks Yeah where like if a team is getting drugged in a seven game series and now they're down two games to none or three games to one or three games to Nothing and they're kind of temporarily out of answers for the actual game itself What do they do in hockey they start fighting so that they can try to put like physical intimidation into the bin here But I can tell you Yokech the Timmer wolves are not they might the Timmer wolves might still lose the series if Anthony Ever doesn't come back I think they're going the series either way sure but they are not intimidated by you and they don't care about your ethical basketball policing So go back to your bench Go try to figure out how to not shoot 28% from the field and maybe how to stop letting Rudy go bear punk you every single Time out in the series.
Yeah, no and I have to imagine what's so interesting to me about this entire rivalry Which we all knew going into it that hey these two teams no two teams have played each other more Entering this series and any other two teams in the NBA over the last few years There is a rivalry that is at it's like absolute peak in terms of hatred in terms of just basketballness And you know it's right down the middle right before the series started I think the 28 games right it was 14 14 a piece So you saw the evenness in this series It wasn't you know You know you like you and I have watched a lot of twins Yankies rivalries in the last 18 years and not much of a rivalry when the other team wins 13 14 games in a row so And what you're also seeing which I think is and I'm not trying to like enter this space into it But like you're seeing the media between the wolves and the nuggets kind of like get after it over the last 24 hours So it is super weird It is just like boiled over to the point of art There's like and I love when fans get super into this so like shout out to Tim Roles fans shot even like bear with me here Shout out to nuggets fans to even like to say hey We both hate each other and we want we want to kill each other in this series So I actually respect that because I think that that's what brings out the best in sports is when you have two teams and two Rivalries and fan base that is absolutely low with each other's existence Yeah, but the yolkish thing at the end here is just cook like it is a palpable thing of all the stuff that I just talked About that is now boiling over like the pot is clearly boiled over on the stove And there's a flip and flame on the top of it and someone has to put it out and right now the fire The firefighters are coming to the house and the wolves are up three to one in the series after the nuggets came in as the hottest Team the NBA so this is crazy I mean I mean work worth 12 minutes into this we have even like spoke much about IO and so many other external things that have happened to The wolves in this series and I think that's what's also super crazy about this but crazy win like legitimately probably one of them work Of a team that's went to back-to-back conference finals for a franchise that has only been there once before outside of two years ago So many talking points and so many tentacles just off this game alone Yeah, I mean considering one minute into the game The absolute glue of this team in the regular season and in the playoffs so far not David and Chenzo You kind of knew looking at one replay like oh man that we've seen that enough here both in Minnesota sports and also in the NBA unfortunately Torne Achilles like it it looked like a tourniquilies in the moment and then ESPN confirmed it in the second half and And so okay, that is a huge massive blow a guy who has the highest Individual player net rating of any player on the wolves regular season or postseason I mean even Chenzo when you look at like you know plus minus or net rating on the floor versus off the floor He was number one on the team in the regular season number one so far in the you know small handful of post-season games Just such a great utility player a feisty defensive player a guy who is knocking down shots And and also just a leader on the court off the court So it's enough to just remove him from the equation one minute into this game and then you know not that long after Anthony Edwards comes down with the left knee hyper extension with it was 2 35 left in the first half when that goes down So I think I think the three main headlines in order as we well four main headlines the main headline is wolves We'll drop three one like that's the main headline the second headline is Dante even Chenzo may never play another game for the Timberwolves again It's a tourniquilies in the playoffs, right? And he has one year left on his contract, you know guys Tatum came back some guys come back So guys don't this this time of year when you tear your Achilles There is no guarantee that you're playing the following season so optimistically he comes back after the all-star break Next year, we'll see what everything looks like but there is a chance one of the wolves most important players does not ever play for the Temerals again I don't mean to be alarmist but that is on the table and then the third headline I think is Iodosunu who scores as we mentioned off the top here 43 points in 42 minutes off the bench 13 of 17 from the field five of five from three 12 of 12 from the free throw line Plus 10 in those 42 minutes. This was legitimately one of the most efficient best offensive performances In recent NBA playoff history find me name every superstar scoring player in the league yolk itch to SGA How many dudes have scored 40 plus points on 17 or fewer field goals going perfect from three point range on five or more Attempts, so I mean what he did tonight off the bench was legitimately one of the best most efficient and quite frankly needed scoring performances in recent NBA history And then I think the fourth headline which could become the number one headline depending on the severity of it is we are holding our breath on Anthony Edwards It's I think it's the opposite knee because it was his right knee that he's been dealing with and even before the hyper extension He's clearly not himself like yeah, he just remains a lesser version of Anthony Edwards a less explosive version I don't know if he's playing at 50% if it's 75% it's nowhere near 100% And then he comes down weird on the left knee and they and we've seen situations in the past where he looks like he's like It's gonna be out for the season He just comes back in the third quarter and he's fine So I think a lot of us were half expecting that to happen again tonight when he didn't come back in in a close game That is gonna be absolutely something to watch it would be devastating to the wolves if he was out for any stretch of time here I still think they can close out the series if he doesn't come back in the series if he's out for the playoffs Then all of this becomes anti-climactic But those are all those are all the big storylines in play tonight after the wolves beat the nuggets here to go up 3-1 So you just mentioned something that I'm gonna be writing down to so I don't forget and I want to come back to it but after game one so the wolves lose game one and All right, the nuggets don't play their best. They don't hit their three pointers The wolves fight back they have the big lead in the first quarter you kind of think okay the wolves lose game one But nuggets don't play their best wolves don't play their best.
That's not a bad game one loss, right? Like it's not a detriment loss or not. It's not a series defining loss Okay, well, let's come back now They've won three games in a row and throughout the process even the game one loss especially hyper focusing kind of back on that If aunt is not gonna be a hundred percent can the other guys step up right like Ken Julius step up Can Julius have effective games Ken Jaden who might be playing some of the best basketball in his life Can IO come out of absolute nowhere strap almost 40 points off the bench and also be kind of like the new heartbeat of this team can Can that sustain itself in this series which now we're kind of seeing and to your point All right, and the wolves win one of these next four games which it's looking likely if they're gonna dance and Before this post even started we said okay, it's probably gonna be spurs and thunder in the Western Conference Finals He got wemby who's just an absolute unicorn and freak got SGA in the thunder who are just a super team Well now dude like think about this there's a world and I know the Spurs won without wemby yesterday in Portland Which like shout out to Spurs that's good for them and now Anthony Edwards is out is They're a world where like the wolves move on to the spurs and see them and Wemby and aunt are not on the court like I mean kind of just kind of like think about how crazy the processes happen like that where all right We know the star players are we know with the top five the six guys are in the NBA But now there's a world where if aunt hyper-excited is me and he's out for an indefinite period of time and I'm and to your point I don't really want to like completely ahead of myself Where I'd say the series around like the world of win game five because they're gonna go back to Denver There's like a shot Denver probably gets that game back in their own home court Maybe this goes to six and hopefully doesn't go to seven But there's now a world where you have a timber world spurs series which we all thought like oh man timber will spurs I mean forget the thunder for a minute can even get back to spurs well now they now there's an actual Conversation where it's terrible versus spurs and their two top players potentially aren't even involved man again I'm not trying to do far ahead of myself, but that's not about it It's I still think there's a chance Portland if Wemby doesn't come back in that series I still think that there's a chance Portland could win that series and they were like they were right there in the fourth quarter But you've opened up like there's a this is like a big side street conversation that goes back the last several years to as the NBA has continued to Get faster and more three-point shooting and more space to be covered in more wearing tear on bodies Then maybe 30 years ago because guys just aren't running around as much and they aren't having to close out as much guys are putting more Spam on their bodies they're playing while they're not all playing 82 games load management But guys are getting hurt like dudes are blowing out their Achilles their knees Jason Tatum Tyre's Halliburton and me even going back to like Kevin Durant on that on that Warriors team where the Raptors got the asterisk Championship Attrition is part of sports. It happens in all leagues where I'll have a pitcher towards a towards elbow like you know Whatever.
Hopefully you have some depth You know quarterback goes down 10 years ago for the Eagles Nick full step on up finish off the playoff run like you it happens But it's kind of crazy the frequency of which we're seeing it here and in the Western Conference You literally have in this bracket When B is out it's possible and to your point like we don't know at this point But there is a chance that you could like if if wolves and nuggets or if wolves and blazer sorry wolves and spurs Raddling off Western kid It wasn't spurs face each other that those guys wouldn't wouldn't be playing in game one And then the like the Lakers are sitting here up three on the Rockets without you know one of the five best players in the NBA Two yeah, and Austin Reeves is out So it is yeah It sucks it sucks for the Timmerwolves if this is a long-term thing and it sucks for the NBA that the most marketable star players that are the most fun to watch are Out available. Yeah in the biggest games. So we don't know on it yet We like it might just be that they didn't want to take anymore chances They were already pushing him too far with the right knee I think the best case scenario is he's out for the rest of the series I think it'd be foolish to run it back out there for the next game in Denver Yeah, I'm with you there don't play him in game five yep The agent for game six if Denver wins and it comes back to Minnesota and kind of go from there But if you could shell him until the next round that would be ideal Yeah, cuz where I'm at right now feeling like and you tell me if I'm coming in my Michael Scott voice explain this Me like I'm fine can I owe to soon move who just put up in a generational type of game Can I owe take more bulk minutes like an I'll step into the and roll and potentially and forgive in game five from Exum with you like at this point and take game five off and if there's a game six All right, we'll deal with that or if there's game one against the San Antonio Spurs team and maybe that series goes seven And the wolves finishes off in game five which I think would be probably the best case scenario for the wolves and their own health right now But can I owe step into even more elevated role without and can the timber wolves? Withstand and also be okay with that not like for the rest of playoffs right because like Over-tourically answer that question.
I love I owe what he brought tonight was awesome And we should have an I owe party tonight Which is what we're gonna talk about tonight But if you're gonna rely on I owe to be your dude for the next you know 12 more wins just to get Championship, I don't think we can say like that's comfortable But can I owe step in and be an ants role and can you hold the fort down while they try to figure out where and is that long term? Yes, I think With with Chicago and in the three months here with the Timberwolves two two and a half three months whatever it's been for I owe He has been an awesome scorer to the degree that he's asked to score in Chicago It's come off the bench and play 25 or 30 minutes But you know you're not gonna be one of the top two options in the same It's kind of a similar role here with the team rules But even maybe more muted because like Julius Randall and Anthony Edwards and you know Even Chenzo shoots a little bit McDaniel's but whenever with Chicago or Minnesota He's been asked to step into a starting role or a role where hey We need we need more than like 12 points or 15 points We need someone that can really drive some offense here at multiple levels. He's comfortable doing it It's not sustainable to be five or five every night from three and he's gonna have some nights But he has been one of the most efficient offensive players in the league in fact Did I see this right at the end of the regular season? Among players with like a qualified number of shot attempts I will and you take off like the bigs like the centers who don't have enough like field goal Yeah, I want to say that Jaden McDaniel's and I had to soon move We're like number one and number two in EFG effective field goal percentage among players who had like a qualified number of Three-point attempts for sure like it can't just be you know Can't just be seven feet shooting everything rude like Rudy go Bears number one in the NBA in effective field goal percentage because he takes seven shots Yeah, which I wish he would have posturized Jamal Murray earlier in that game And he winds up kind of going up soft and Murray gets the block whatever But to answer your question is I am gonna score 43 points regularly probably not can he score if if he is being told Ant is out even Chenzo is out you're starting the top two offensive options or the top three offensive options are now Julius Randall I would assume and a little more Jade McDaniel's because I'd like to see him get some of this if ants gonna be out to Can he hang shooting 15 to 20 times a game pretty high efficiency 100% Yeah, 100% dude.
I said on this podcast not to you know, I'm wrong all the time So not to pat myself on the back three weeks after they traded for him I said on this I think it was a hottest takes episode So maybe it was the temperature was up a little bit I said I think there's a world within like two years where IO is one of your three most important players or best players remember that Yeah, and tonight was a great illustration why he's an unrestricted free agent after the season But I am giving him whatever bag the market dictates and figuring out the rest later because you're gonna have to navigate next season without Not they'd even Chenzo now which makes IO to sumu even more important over the course of 82 games He's probably starting for you in 2000 26 27 next to Anthony Edwards at this point He's certainly starting the rest of these playoffs even if Anthony Edwards comes back if ant comes back at any point You're starting lineup is just IO replacing Dante They'd even Chenzo and that's interesting because that's a starting lineup that a lot of people were curious to see before the injuries But it was too hard to pull even Chenzo out of that role and put him into a bench role again When he loves starting and that starting five has been like a plus eight points for 100 possessions When you said like 20 minutes ago when we started out this podcast and you're like hey What IO did like is literally one of the most impressive post-season performances We've ever seen from NBA player I kind of like I didn't raise my eyebrow which I probably did the video so you can probably go back and look and be like What did you feel like that's a great people's eyebrow there? No like that? That's a that's a the rock-wing job. Would be proud.
Yeah Thank you. Thank you, but I again, let's look at what he did just from and we saw it with our eyes But look at the Spock score which is absolutely bananas in 42 minutes of play. I'll just soon move scored 43 points He was 13 of 17 from the field which like okay I won't I won't give you the next two stats which are also mind-blowing But just okay, he took 17 shots from the field and 13 of them went in man. Holy crap.
That's awesome I will also tell you in the same breath. He didn't miss a three pointer He was five for five and he didn't miss a single free throw which was 12 for 12 The world as a team were 25 of 26 from the free throw line And for a team that is like was statistically right one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the NBA coming into this playoff run Right and look like Rudy kind of dictates that a little bit. So like there's some skews there But let me repeat that he didn't miss a three pointer He didn't miss a free throw and in just those shots But let's just take his three pointers and his free throws he took 17 of those shots and he didn't miss a single one of those shots Man and again like it's not to your point I asked you can I will step in and can you be like a sustainable and band-aid force to if Anthony Edwards and Dante And Dante's for sure out but like if Anthony Edwards can play and you're not gonna get a 17 for 17 effective field goal like Performance with that with three points and free throws But this is where that type of trade and this is also where man I I am so glad I didn't trade for you honest because I would much rather roll with this type of deep bench and also find Essentially like the pull tab that is $500 in the middle of this bin that is I'll just soon move and just take my money and walk away And go from there like dude. This is this is legitimately to your point I can't like I gave the people's eyebrows first like fail like LeBron like block a udala like I'm like all these great like I know I'm not saying perform like just a singular performance again.
I get that But when you first said I was like that can't be right like I watched him too Like it was an awesome performance when you look at that box or man, it's an absolutely insane box score Are you ready to take your savings to a new level during Rakuten's big-give week? So we'll go we're gonna go I'm just gonna go and we're gonna do this live on the show here any any year in NBA history of course Well, three point era will go three point era obviously we'll go playoffs I hope it comes back and I'm apparently there's like 40 guys and I'm just yeah I'm just switching to ring his IO coolate here. Yeah, that's usually right. We are usually, you know So we're going points. I'll say at least 40.
I'll give a little bit of a buffer here. Okay, and then we're gonna go Feel go can you can you use your calculator and no go so 40 or more points never mind on on 17 shots, yep, and then we'll say at least five Those have to be three-point attempts at least five three-point attempts because I'm a shack probably had games like this Where he's getting fouled and stuff spread right now, you gotta be shooting some freezer So three point field goal attempts will say at least five drum roll please MBA history since the three-point line was drawn on the court One other player in the history of the NBA playoffs. Okay. Okay.
One other member will it's a former term Wolf. It's a former Wolf Okay, hold on. I really want this. I really want this.
I'll give you a clue I don't think you're gonna get it, but it is getable. It is getable It's not a current NBA player. No, not a current NBA player and a former Tim he'd do it as a temper Wolf He did not no do it as a timber Sam to sell your sniffing out your sniffing around the era a little closer Okay, he did play in the league. He definitely overlapped several years with Sam because on the NBA, but he would he would have been The year that he did it was probably like the year before Sam to sell got to the NBA So this is oh wow and he indexes so this what this is like mid 90s Because it's more like early 90s.
It's my early night before you were born. Okay, so right where I was born It's a former Wolf and the trail came in like mid 90s. So it's not much real free. Well, man I'm still the performance was 41 points in a 119 102 win by the Blazers over the Utah Jazz on May 19th of 1992 And this player so yes 41 points on 14 field goal attempts He was 12 of 14 13 of 14 from the freighter line Terry Porter Terry Porter.
Wow. Yeah, no God respect my former wolves elders Judce that's what sports that might have been able to sign me that that's incredible. Okay, so so two timbers wolves have done this not with The wolves but that's yeah, so I you know what something listen We can be hyperbolic sometimes and maybe over exaggerate our enthusiasm on these podcasts as we get excited But what you saw tonight just to recap from Iodosumu was historic in its level of efficiency Unbelievable performance with with the vibes of the series in the balance and this is a team that can be very reactive emotionally Nas Reed Julius Randall jade McDaniel's it the wolves are very easy to throw off their game and fluster And so it it takes someone during times of distress or some major event occurs could be officiating could be whatever it is sometimes it takes someone to lock them back in and Iodosumu is such a flat line personality and seems to be an understated leader as well Even when he's not scoring 43 points on 17 shots So just not enough can be said about what we saw from that dude tonight and he was it was it he who earned the bang from Mike And the Breen was I owe or was yeah, I did I would I hid that three like this Near the end of regulation. It was like a minute ago and vital and dude That's we know guys feeling it cuz like I would I would and maybe I would just be like no did I knew that was going In that you just struck it up like that You just like you know I'll throw it a throw this guy up there We're up 12 with 62 seconds left in this game script A couple of minutes before that he had that little running mid-ranger that he banks, it was straight on He banked it off the backboard.
I think he called bank on that. I legitimately think I don't think he just like airmailed a floater I think he called bank on that. Yeah, a couple other shot-outs Mike Conley buried a massive three to put the wolves up 11 in the fourth To get that first double digit lead. Yeah, and you know Finchy kind of lean back on that security blanket But Conley helped get things organized.
He he hit the big three-pointer I thought he got called for a couple tiki tack files there I did not love a couple of those files and neither did he but but he played his role well tonight as well and He's a Shannon. I think we're gonna probably see a little more of it is out in the next game But you know at least it wasn't a lot it was seven minutes and he hit the one three But Chris Finch did show that next man up in this rotation is is here in shannon jr So if ants out I would expect him to play more than seven minutes in game But we love to play this game just on across all of our former platforms up if I said this what you bet this team one You know we love to do this on the platform. Yeah, if I were to tell you Game ends and Dante D even Shenzo and Anthony Edwards are gonna play a combined 19 minutes total total They're gonna go one from nine one for nine from the field goal percentage To the world when that just just just with that just that cook cook like like legitimately just tell me that information Going into game four and I would say nine and a half out of ten times I'll give you the half of it nine and a half times out of ten. Well, yeah, you know what I Would have then followed up if you weren't if that wasn't enough my question would have been like okay If I could ask you one question justify it.
Yes before I say yes or no I would have said the rest of the team how did they shoot from three like the rest of the team not Anthony Edwards and Even Chenzo and that answer would have been or how many how many three's I would have said how many threes would do the rest of the team Make and the answer would have been eight eight and I would have said well mathematically I don't see how you can hit only eight three pointers and then have basically nothing from Anthony Edwards and even Chenzo therefore You probably lose to the nuggets. Yeah, not win by 16 points. Yeah, three points. Yeah, not slowly away And like this is where I keep kind of like going back and tearpoint You know you've had yourself on the back with the whole aisle being the three most important players on this team in three years From now and whatnot this is where like playoff timber wolves and also like playoff Prince Finch to me are so different and that's where like I don't get upset when you lose in the magic in the middle of February by 25 points in an afternoon mat day at home What are you gonna do in the playoffs against a team that comes in that has won 12 games in a row and your star player Who's already had only played like three or four games because he's had a hyper knee extension You lose another starter on a freak at kiddies injury.
How are you gonna manage all this? Are you gonna be able to handle all this adversity or you're gonna be able to figure out? What's what's the next steps you can take to potentially win this game and not just like luck your way because that is you know That can happen in any sport in any game like you can luck your way into a win No, no, no words of LA night. No, no, how do you win this game by 10 plus points?
Couldn't like confidently without all of those things happening and be like yeah, you're up three games to one We're about to go to the second round God willing an ethical apps like that's where I give so much credit to Chris Finch And I give so much credit for playoff wolves which I know it's frustrating the flip switching and look There's a there's a realistic path where someone's gonna throw egg on my face on Monday and Tuesday when they're like man They lost by 25 points in game five you idiot And this is gonna be now in game six and now we're puckered because we're Minnesota sports fans totally realistic path But that's why like I love to see playoff timber wolves and playoff Chris Finch before I come to the conclusion after a You know lack of data performance in the middle of every Finch actually just kind of spoke about the the flipping of the switch vibes So he was he was asked about like why do they play like this on the playoffs? They're cool their energy is up. They've met they've morphed back into the best defensive team in the league They're holding the best offensive team in the league to under a hundred points But multiple times in the series even like the three points you and you can't say it's just Denver missing shots six of 29 again from three point range tonight they can't make a three in the series and And some of it's missing shots, but a lot of it too It's like they're just they're not getting in rhythm great looks But so Chris Finch said the players kept telling me it would be different when we get to the playoffs Well game one wasn't any different so we jumped their asses They lied to us and then they responded after the coaches jumped their asses Yeah, because game one they were they were the game one was it wasn't like a total disaster But it was that wasn't like playoff wolves where they're flying around and there and then the first quarter of game two was also Underwhelming but what we've now seen for the last I guess it would be 11 quarters is as I said after the last game It's a champion championship team. It's a championship team that they haven't been able to tap into it at a high level And what's what's frustrating is even if aunt comes back from a hyper extended knee There's zero chance that dude's gonna be anywhere near 100% for this playoff run So to have IO playing like this and being this added layer and this lightning bolt that can get to the rim Which is kryptonite to the nuggets by the way you have basically taken what is the nuggets kryptonite rim protection Complete inability and unwillingness to not early in the game They showed some fight and some feistness and the wolves kind of at time stopped attacking the rim And then they remembered in the second half.
Oh, yeah, like let's just let's just follow IO's lead Let's just get to the rim on a regular basis And even even through it the wolves actually missed according to cleaning the glass the wolves missed 15 shots at the rim tonight And still one by 16 points. Yeah, but if you just keep relentlessly attacking this Denver team at the rim It's checkmate. Yeah, and the wolves took the biggest piece of role player kryptonite in terms of like Downhill attacking transition relentlessly trying to get to the rim and they plopped it in this series in IO to sumo and And that's why I think even if Anthony Edwards doesn't come back in the series They will find a way led by IO and Julius Randall who both are relentlessly trying to get to the inside in the paint go up against Yolkitch they'll find a way I am oddly at peace with a short term Anthony over in type or extended knee long term If he's out for the playoffs like zero chance you're beating Oklahoma City for sure I'm oddly at peace with it with a short term Anthony over in tight I have two questions for you Phil number one wolves related I think you just kind of answered it is All right, how comfortable are you with Anthony Edwards probably not playing another game in just this series? How comfortable are you?
I'm so comfortable It gets a little thin obviously like if there's no deep and gentle Anthony Edwards you've completely blown up your starting your starting Backcourt so I get I get that Anthony Edwards is one of the six best players in the NBA when he's healthy So I understand the insanity of what I'm saying here But we're not asking them to win four games without those guys We're asking them to win one of the next three one of the next three and they have a home game in their back pocket in game six And the guys that remain are capable and even if you throw a little more tarantshan in junior on the pile A guy who is relentless at attacking downhill and the rim You can throw enough kryptonite and defense at denver in my opinion to beat them at least once In these remaining three second question and I it's a little rhetorical because I don't think it really Affects who he is as a legacy player in what he's done How differently do you look at yokich after this series of the wolves went in five specifically like specifically they went in five Like yes, he has the MVPs. I'm not saying it like deters who he has what he has accomplished and who he is the player But I also this yeah, man This is where like I give chris finch so much credit and so much like guys like wait wait till this wolves playoff team shows up One of the best players we have ever seen looks completely lost and caught like like puzzled puzzle not caught puzzled Over the first four games and I think that's what that that to me is where I am It's one thing for your team to lose and your star player tries to show up and no one else is behind him The wolves unfortunately saw it so many times at kevin garnett where it took them getting to sell and spree well here to get to the western conference Miles he was just just carrying the weight of his shoulders getting to a 50 wins in the regular season just get bouncing four games I am just amazed at what the wolves have done to make yokich basically look like a passenger man That's almost impossible to do. I have a very strong opinion on this I think it's less of an indictment and a statement on yokich who Regardless of what happens the rest of the series will go down as an all-time great NBA player a unicorn of a seven foot player So I think it's I think it's less about like whoa and people are maybe gonna make it about Whoa is he is he cooked is he did he written? I don't and he's he's probably not long for his prime You know at 30 whatever he was he 31 years old and sometimes looks like he's 50 out there but I think it's more of a shining light on Rudy go bare and I forget who had this someone went back You know the 28 games or whatever whatever the stretch is that Rudy and yokich have been on the court And I think it only includes the games that those guys are like on the court in the Denver minnesota matchups And I believe if you include tonight's individual plus minus numbers Of which really go bare with a plus one in 36 minutes and nikole yokich was a minus 12 I believe and I wish I could credit whoever put this out on the internet yesterday I believe that puts Rudy at plus 65 in these matchups the last few years and yokich collectively a minus 15 Wow, no the se the series is like essentially 50 50 and yokich puts up the better box scores because you know He's a better score.
Uh, he's a better passer and he's racking up. He's racking up box score numbers He still went for 24 15 and 9 tonight with three steals he's still making an impact and doing yokich things But he was a for 22 from the floor There aren't many individual defenders that fluster nikole yokich the way that rudig go bare does and of course rudig gets like the shacks spent The pregame or was it half time one of the I can't remember the cut in Refusing to give credit to rudig go bare for yokich looking bad in the series and in shacks words. It was when yokich looks like this He's just missing shots. You're not going to give go bare the credit dude go bare is is Absolutely flustering yokich with hands and passing lanes with hands and yokich's face when he's trying to operate making yokich I have to think twice about how and when he goes up for mid-range shots and and shots at the rim Sometimes go bare is gonna take the brunt of it and get posturized or get put in the spin cycle But I think over time the way that yokich struggles sometimes against the wolves is less about yokich being cooked and more about rudig go bare Being an all-time great defensive player.
Yeah, who can who can put some guys, you know In a weird spot with their offensive game did some a good old st. Cloud state math real quick here Which is always suspect at best, but just looking at plus minuses through the first Five four games of the series yokich through the first four games just just on the court I'm not even putting the fact of is go bare on the court with them yokich on the court is a minus 31 through four games so far Rudy go bare through four games plus seven not not you know nothing like earth shattering But look at that difference right there yokich one of if not one of the most dominating players in the NBA that we've seen in the last five To six years is a minus 31 when he's been on the court for a team that came into this series as the hottest team in the NBA And rudig go bare who is just this hilarious punching bag and he's easy to poke at and he's easy to make fun of Is plus seven you can you can honestly tell if someone Understands basketball at even a basic level if they think rudig go bare is bad If you think rudig go bare is like a is like a net negative or someone worthy of a punchline You can pretty much dismiss that person's opinion out of hand entirely like that like no basketball conversation needs to continue if rudig go bare sucks Is is like part of their thought process? Yeah, and you're seeing it play out Live in the flesh. Does he still do some things is he still clunky in some ways?
Does he suck at some things? Yes, he tries to thread a needle in the paint yokich picks it off, you know live All the way away You know that that hilarious moment where I think he got followed by yokich and he was kind of behind the basket And he puts up that shot like tries to shoot it over the back of the backboard But he's like He hoisted a three tonight in the fourth quarter and the arena roof would have blown off if he would have knocked that thing out But yeah, I mean rudig go bare has been I also you know what I don't know what the individual match-up numbers are on Julius Randall guarding Nicole yokich, but I can tell you that it looks like Julius Randall with his big you know sort of bully body and his little Poking tactic that he's using on yokich. He's also driving yokich kind of crazy in the series. So Yeah, man.
It is Again a lot of this in terms of how far can the wolves go is predicated on the health of not only Anthony Edwards right knee Which has been the issue going into the playoffs, but now his hyper extended left knee And we'll see what the update is on that but um Man if they can get through Denver and get Anthony Edwards some rest and if it's not worst case scenario And if wimby is I mean there is some interesting stuff ahead here for the minnesota team rules By the way, if you're hanging out with us one of the 22 2300 people after the wolves took this three one leave Maybe you're new to flagren howls bill maki deckling golf the sports dad jud guide done with jud taki show and our day three purple daily live draft Stream we take your feet up jutted but you'll see him this week on flagren how's again hit that subscribe button Uh, where we'd love to get to 10,000 subscribers during the playoffs and you can help us get there if you enjoy these post game podcast here W podcast. Yeah, I mean This is the classic minnesota sports fan where i'm i'm really having a tough time here feel where like All right, they just they have dominated the hottest team the mba Which like everyone wrote them off and like I go back to a year ago where they everyone picked the Lakers to pick the timbrels And I was like are you sure about that like this? This doesn't feel like as even as the national fund is thinking because it's LeBron the Lakers and all the hotshot jj redick Which I'd still just think is incredibly over his head coach, but like okay, forget that for right now I'm i'm having a tough time where it's like all right The wolves have dominated the hottest team for the three last four games and it's three to one Got one more game to win and i'm not trying to get super hot yet ahead of myself But it's just it's been so lopsided and You know, yes, the wolves had that great first quarter in game one and then they looked so bad in the first quarter in game two And ever since then so you know take those what four plus eight plus three Which decklin does quick math there 11 quarters the last 11 quarters the wolves have been superior to denver So can you close it out and can you not make this little more puckard? But it's been incredible just because If you don't have ant and then you lose your one of your starting guys in dante for you know Yes, for literally a foreseeable future and maybe ever Can you still be okay with it and they were they were more than okay with it tonight? I understand your three and a half decades of minnesota sports angst I understand why that is making you feel like this three one lead is not safe and people are worried about anthony Edwards and that is a legitimate worry totally like beyond this first round that's 100 percent valuary But uh, I am here not even positive phil regular phil is here to tell you this series is over It's over regardless of whether anthony abwards comes back The nuggets cannot stop the downhill freight train that the tinder wolves and even the rest of their depth without a couple key players Bring to the table and the good news is Even cenzo anthony abwards out.
Okay, who replaces that offensive productivity and that shot volume And the answer is two of the most efficient offensive players in the mba iodos umu and jade mcgenyles To wrap the series is over That never might win a game, but i'm just telling for sure you can take track mark this I'm sure there's some nuggets fans medium members out there cloudy cold cold takes old takes exposed Hit me if the nuggets come back and win this thing in seven games Uh, but I am a hundred percent confident that even if anthony abwards does not come back The series is over. Yeah, I feel good. I feel good. I got and I want to be that clear too I don't want to be classic minnesota sports fan.
We're just like, oh god, you know now it's a three-one series lead It's just I I don't I've seen that tiktaniks sink and kill 1700 people. Okay, so I just I don't want to get too far ahead of myself But then also, you know the wild came back tonight Not this is not saki showing more but like the wild came back that even that series Um the twins are the twins and we'll have a state of the twins on monday But I love what the world were able to do to overcome that adversity I love what the wild did tonight and hopefully we have just prolonged success man It's insane. It's literally insane that I have been alive here for 33 years And if you run the simulations, which I got made fun for it I went to dinner night with some friends before the wolves game and I said run the simulations You know how impossible it is to have one of your four major sports teams not when a championship Or just like sometimes even with the twins case not when a playoff game when the Rockies can beat the Dodgers over the weekend Like you realize how absolutely insane that is to happen and it's literally played out and it has happened So I love what the wolves are doing here. I feel good about going to the second round and then we'll go from there That's running Love it.
Love it. Yeah, it is by the way. That is like The fact that not only in 35 years a market with four Men's professional sports teams for almost the entirety of that 35 years We had like eight years without the hockey team because the north stars and then the white Not only have they not won a championship none of them have been to the championship round in 35 years Yeah, so if it wasn't for the links going there every other year and winning some type like the only banners that aren't Deceased people in the rafters at target center are thanks to the miso links. So All right, we're gonna we're gonna put this live stream celebration of a wolves three one It's not closed out yet, but as I told you it will be We're gonna put this to bed here Take a bow the most the most efficient the most efficient offensive playoff performance in the modern NBA era from our research on stat head and getting the first Mike clean Of the playoffs Again hit that subscribe button if you're new here on flagren howls and we'll see you guys later on in this series film Aki the Dexter thanks for hanging out
