Mirror, Mirror
from Sermons at the Shed · host Eythan Tibbs
God's grand design for humanity includes the profound purpose of bearing His image, particularly visible in the parent-child relationship. Children are naturally equipped with mirror neurons that enable them to learn, develop empathy, and regulate emotions through observation and imitation of their parents. This biological design underscores the spiritual truth that we are meant to reflect God's character in our daily lives. However, various distortions can cloud our ability to reflect God's image effectively. These include feelings of condemnation, shame, worthlessness, and depression. The solution lies in clearing these distortions through biblical truth and the renewing of our minds. By focusing on being rather than doing, parents can better mirror God's character to their children. This transformation process involves identifying negative self-talk, comparing distortions with Scripture's truth, and taking intentional steps to better reflect God's image to our families.
