Originally emerging from graffiti culture, the name Mishen became an extension of a wider artistic identity long before finding its place behind the decks and in the studio. Beginning his DJ career in Adelaide's hardcore scene in 2004, he became a regular presence within the local underground through his involvement with NeoGenesis Crew and performances alongside both local and international artists. A turning point came in 2008 with the discovery of hard techno. Drawn to its rolling grooves, technical arrangements and relentless energy, the genre quickly became the foundation of his musical direction. It wasn't long before he turned his attention to production, teaching himself Ableton and steadily refining a sound that continues to evolve today. That evolution is on full display throughout Flashbacks EP, which explores three distinct sides of Mishen's sound. The title track, Flashbacks, sets the tone with driving percussion, rolling grooves and a memorable vocal hook, capturing the raw energy of classic rave culture through a modern hard techno lens. Back With It raises the intensity, combining a heavier distorted kick with psychedelic builds, chopped vocal edits and hypnotic transitions that blur the line between tension and release. Closing the EP, No Escape ventures even deeper into darker territory. Heavy percussion, intricate edits and an expansive psychedelic breakdown combine to deliver the release's most immersive and climactic moment. Driven by a constant desire to refine his craft and develop a sound uniquely his own, this debut release marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Mishen.
