Born in Baghdad, Iraq, Weam is of Chaldean descent—descendants of the ancient Neo-Babylonians who still speak Aramaic, the language of Jesus. After immigrating to the United States as a child, her life became a story of identity, resilience, and cultural preservation. With over 26 books and multiple award-winning films, including Pomegranate, Weam uses storytelling to explore themes of belonging, family, and voice. Her work brings forward generations of history while creating space for new narratives to emerge.
