He was part of a group of wild bohemian humorists who gathered at Pfaff's Beer Cellar in New York City, and wrote clever satirical pieces for the New York Tribune. Today we read the Introduction to the book 'Doesticks -- What He Says' and the chapter concerning Niagara Falls -- 'Doesticks on a Bender' from 1855.
