MMM with Dr. David Blackwell, Pt.2 --Mistrust between African Americans & Science/Medical Community

from Meet Me in the Middle Podcast · host Lindsay Pollard & Joy Waters Martin

In this episode, we have conversations about the tragedy of the Tuskegee Experiment (1932-1972) and how it has affected mistrust between the African American community and the science/medical community. Dr. David Blackwell shares needed perspectives – especially considering the current atmosphere of the COVID-19 pandemic -- by helping us understand the facts, processes, and procedures to speak truth, hope and encouragement as we move forward. He is an advocate for people of color having a place at the table to become an integral part of the medical and scientific process and is one of the founding members of the Black Directors Health Equity Agenda (BDHEA), an organization that “exist(s) to ensure that black families thrive, by eradicating the health disparities and inequities that threaten their individual and collective prosperity.” (From BDHEA website) Bio: Dr. David K. Blackwell (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Global Health Certificate, Master of Public Health) who currently serves as the Senior Director in Drug Safety Research and Development within the Worldwide Research, Development and Medical Division of Pfizer, Inc. where he serves as a General Toxicology Lead and has over 30 years of experience in drug development.
