MOA 148: PIFAF – Dropping Sincere Compliments on Others to Live Your Life of Abundance
from Men of Abundance · host Wally Carmichael
Dropping Sincere Compliments on Others to Live Your Life of AbundanceAloha Men. When's the last time you greatly improved someones day by randomly dropping a sincere compliment on a random stranger? This is one of my favorite things to do when the opportunity presents itself. But in this story, the complement really was not as easy as I feel it should have been. Let me explain. So, I've been going to Office Max to get some cards printed and laminated. I've had various card made there on four different occasions over the last month or so. Every time I go there I always notice most of the employees are generally happy and curious. Except for this one guy. This man has served my twice. The first time I went and this last time just a few days ago. Rather he served me or not, I notice he is disgruntle, direct when answering questions and kind of rude. He certainly does not look like he wants to be there. In fact, the last time he printed and laminated the cards for me, while he was scoring the edges I actually heard him say, "I don't want to be here" along with the song that was playing in the store. Only those were not the words of the song.My initial thought was, "when I check out, I'm going to ask where he would rather be and what would he rather be doing?"But honestly, I did not feel like having that conversation with this man. Well, I did but I didn't, you know? Just not right now. Here's the thing, I always liked when he did the cards because he does a better job than the other two that have served. So, as he was ringing me up to check out, I leaned forward and told him. "Of the three of you behind this counter, you always do a much better job with these cards. And I appreciate that."His facial expression hardly changed at the comment. In fact, he seemed to hardly acknowledge my sincere compliment. But that was not my intent. I simply wanted to let him know he did a great job. However, as the comment sunk in I could see his expression soften. And then it happened, one of his coworkers standing near him said something that actually made this young man smile and almost laugh.I don't know that my comment had anything to do with that. But I never saw this man smile in the four times I'd been there. So...Anyway, I know the comment did not hurt. Well, it didn't hurt me anyway. Compliments are free and usually easy to give.Maybe next time I will get into the conversation about why in the heck is he there doing something he's good at but hates and despises so much. That's for another show so stay tuned. Now, go out and Live Your Life of Abundance. And make sure to Pay it Forward.AlohaI'm out.Sponsors and Affiliates, Helping you live your Life of Abundance and helping me keep the mic on.Shakeology, Dense nutrition shake.
