Modern Apps and a New Framework for Observability w/ Harmen Vander Linde

from VMware Podcasts · host VMware Podcasts

On our most recent multi-cloud podcast we talk with Harmen Vander Linde. Harmen is a Senior Director in VMware’s Office of the CTO where he heads up the Cloud Data Platforms Team. One of the areas where Harmen and his team have been focused recently is the development of a new “Observability Framework”. We started our discussion by looking at the roots of this new discipline. Observability has evolved from IT infrastructure and application monitoring. Tech innovation in the areas of public cloud computing; modern apps based on containers and micro-services and the need to satisfy the need of DevOps teams looking to troubleshoot these apps has given rise to the need for something beyond traditional monitoring. Harmen then walked us through a new observability framework that he and his pan VMware team have created to address observability needs. We finished our session with a recap of the current state of observability as well as what app and IT professionals can expect in the future.
