Moment of Meditation: Magog (Genesis 10:2)
from Wrestling with Theology · host Rev. Doug Minton
The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. Genesis 10:2 Japheth’s second son Magog has one of the more well-known names. Gog and Magog are referenced in both Ezekiel and Revelation. They are the ultimate enemies of God’s people Israel. Magog is the ancestor of the Scythians of southern Russia. The Scythians are only mentioned in the Scriptures once: “Here there is no Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all” (Colossians 3:11). The Scythians were barbarians, a wild and savage race. But Paul tells us that even the most savage person is still able to believe the Gospel and be saved. Amen.
