Moment of Meditation: Master and Servant (Genesis 9:26)

from Wrestling with Theology · host Rev. Doug Minton

He also said, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem; and let Canaan be his servant. Genesis 9:26 Noah prophesies that Shem will be blessed by the LORD. It will be Shem’s descendants who are peculiarly blessed. Shem will be the ancestor of Abraham, and the ancestor of Jesus. Shem has the revered place among Noah’s three sons. Ham has the least among the three. His descendants will be the servants of the other two. They will not have places of prominence for long. They will spend most of their time as servants to the other nations. This is the first distinction between masters and servants in the Scriptures. God is taking the next step in narrowing the funnel to take us from all the nations of the earth to focus on our Savior. That Savior would come from Shem and be the LORD, the Master of all. Amen.
