Moment of Meditation: Noah Blessed (Genesis 9:1)

from Wrestling with Theology · host Rev. Doug Minton

And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. Genesis 9:1 Noah received the same blessing given to our first parents: “Be fruitful and multiply.” It is the one blessing that is repeated generation after generation. God blesses each generation with the ability to “be fruitful and multiply.” To bring forth the next generation to serve Him. Noah and his sons were given the same commandment as our first parents: populate the world with your children. He wants to bless each married couple with children. “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward” (Psalm 127:3). But children are not God’s only blessing. As we will see the rest of this month, God’s Word is His greatest blessing. As we prepare for Christmas, we await the arrival of the Word made flesh like you and me. The Word who came to bless us so that our faith may “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.” Amen.
