Moment of Meditation: Nothing They Cannot Do (Genesis 11:6)

from Wrestling with Theology · host Rev. Doug Minton

And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.” Genesis 11:6   When people are united in one purpose, they seem to be unstoppable. When a football team’s offensive line is working together in unison, the quarterback can do whatever he wants in the pocket. He can throw downfield. He can hand the ball to the running back. With only one language and one dialect, the tower builders were unstoppable. Nothing they put their mind to do would be out of reach for them. Once again, they could magnify their sinfulness in any manner. Just as it was in the days of Noah. God would not have that. He had commanded that they disperse throughout the world. They wanted to stay put. While their unity was prevalent, they weren’t going anywhere. Next time, we will see God remove that unity in order that He might bring salvation to all. Amen.
