Moment of Meditation: Philistines (Genesis 10:13-14)

from Wrestling with Theology · host Rev. Doug Minton

Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim. Genesis 10:13-14 Of all the nations surrounding Israel, no one caused them more trouble than the Philistines. As you go through Joshua, Judges and the books of Samuel, it seems that Israel is constantly at war with the Philistines. Not surprising since they descend from Egypt. There must be a connection there. In the wars between Israel and the Philistines, it seems the Philistines have the upper hand most times. The Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant. Goliath blasphemed God for forty days. The Philistines overtook King Saul and killed all his sons so that Saul committed suicide. Our enemies often seem to have the upper hand and continually winning our battles with them. However, as Israel ultimately triumphed over the Philistines, we too have triumphed over our enemies. Jesus has defeated sin, death and the devil for us. For that, we thank and praise, serve and obey Him. Amen.
