Moment of Meditation: Triple Decker (Genesis 6:16)

from Wrestling with Theology · host Rev. Doug Minton

Make it with lower, second, and third decks. (Genesis 6:16) A three-fold structure is very common in the Scriptures. The three levels of living spaces in the Ark confess the Trinity. God seeks to be with His creation, as He has from the very beginning. Even in the Ark, God wanted to be with His creation through His works of creation, redemption, and sanctification. Noah, his family, and the animals lived in the Ark for over a year. During that time, God continued to do His creative work through causing new animals to be born so that they may repopulate the earth. The fact that anyone or anything is in the Ark confesses God’s desire to redeem His creation. Even though man has grieved His heart, God still seeks to redeem and save His creation. After creation and redemption, God seeks to help His people grow in the faith. To grow in holiness before Him. God sent the Flood as a manner of re-creating the world in a manner similar to the Garden of Eden. He is working with sinners, but He seeks to make them holy through His Word of promise. Amen.
