Moment of Meditation: Water from Above and Below (Genesis 7:11)

from Wrestling with Theology · host Rev. Doug Minton

Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. When God sent forth the Flood, it was not only rain from the sky that fell. “The fountains of the great deep burst forth.” The reservoirs beneath the earth burst forth. Very likely, this formed a tsunami wave that broke upon the whole earth. This is also very likely how the earth broke into the continents we have now. The breaking forth of the water from under the earth was likely the bulk of the water that stood upon the earth. But the rain came down as well. “The windows of the heavens were opened.” This was likely the first time rain fell on the earth. And it was a torrential downpour. The water came upon the earth from above and below. Amen.
