Montana Indians and the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition

University of Montana Native American Studies Department historian David Beck describes the little-known saga involving hundreds of American Indians participating in Chicago’s 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition—called by one scholar “the most successful of all World’s Fairs.” Beck draws on archival documents to explore the role Montana Indians played, and hoped to play, in this major cultural event.
