Montmartre

That weekend in Spring when we'd had just about enough Booked a flight for Charles de Gaulle and then we just took off Aznavour records on a battered old Dansette My love for Edith I know I will not regret That look upon your face I will never forget The moment we arrived We went to Paris to look at art Stayed in a hotel close to Montmartre You Simone de Beauvoir and me Jean-Paul Sartre Such an existential pair The Champs Elysees in the rain Revolutionary bookshops on the left bank of the Seine Buskers on the Place de Magdelene And the steps of the Sacre Coeur You looking sober and unamused While I'm hungover and emotionally abused You struck there match that sparked a fire in my soul Watched in wonder as the flames burned out of control Call out the Gendarme notify Interpol It was the time of our lives Two nights in Paris that was the start Of something special there in Montmartre Like Jean-Luc Goddard and his Bande Aparte We were a law unto ourselves The Mona Lisa I bet she was a pain Yann Thierson and the Strokes the ear worms in my brain Window shopping Hermes, we saw Shakeira Caine And she looked like something else Living a fantasy straight out of Amelie More than magically real Michelin restaurants Pigalle debutantes The night we stormed the Bastille The Champs Elysees in the rain Revolutionary bookshops on the left bank of the Seine Busking on the Place de Magdelene and the steps of the Sacre Coeur Yes you and I were there
