More Than the Hunt – Tradition, Legacy, and the Ochoco Unit

In this deeply personal episode of The Life Outdoors, host Nate Bailey shares the significance of finally drawing his antelope tag in the Ochoco unit after 13 years of waiting. But for Nate, hunting is about far more than just harvesting an animal—it's about history, tradition, and the deep connections to the land. He reflects on his family's rich hunting heritage in the Ochoco, recalling childhood memories, the wisdom passed down from uncles and mentors, and the sacredness of the land where generations before him have hunted. Nate also delves into the historical significance of the area, from its Native American history to its role in frontier conflicts. As he prepares for his upcoming pronghorn hunt with a muzzleloader, Nate emphasizes the essence of hunting as a way of life—one that goes beyond pulling the trigger. He encourages listeners to embrace their own traditions, create lasting memories, and honor the spirit of the hunt. Join Nate for a raw, honest, and inspiring story that will ignite your adventurous spirit and remind you to Wake the Wild Within.
