Morgan County Jane Doe (1950): Unidentified Woman Found Murdered in West Virginia

In 1950, a mushroom hunter discovered the body of an unidentified woman along a remote road in Morgan County, West Virginia. She had been murdered and left alone in the woods.Within the first year of the investigation, authorities believed they had identified her at least seven different times. Every lead proved wrong. Nearly 75 years later, the Morgan County Jane Doe still has no name—and her killer has never been identified. In this episode of She Goes by Jane, we examine one of West Virginia’s enduring unidentified persons cases, exploring the investigation, the repeated misidentifications, and what it means for someone’s identity to remain perpetually out of reach. We also consider the limitations of mid-century forensic investigation and how some victims disappear not only from public view, but from cultural memory itself. 📍 Morgan County, West Virginia | May 1950➡️ Share Morgan County Jane Doe's story to help her get her name back. ➡️ Join us on Patreon!
