Red wolves were declared extinct in the wild back in 1980 and reintroduced starting in 1987, making them the first carnivorous species ever successfully brought back after vanishing entirely from the wild. Fewer than 20 were believed to survive before this season, so four litters is a real, countable boost to the whole population.
