The meeting marks the first U.S. presidential visit to Beijing in nearly a decade and carries enormous geopolitical weight. Xi opened the session by asking whether the two nations could avoid the "Thucydides Trap" — the historical pattern in which a rising power and a ruling power end up in conflict. Accompanying Trump is a who's-who of American tech and industry: Tesla's Elon Musk, Apple's Tim Cook, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, BlackRock's Larry Fink, and Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg. Analysts expect a series of trade deals in beef, soybeans, Boeing aircraft, and energy, along with possible announcements on a U.S.-China board of trade and investment. AI governance, rare earth minerals, and export controls on advanced semiconductors are also firmly on the table.Iran War Toll Passes 3,600 Dead as Lebanon Talks ResumeThe 2026 U.S.-Israel campaign against Iran has now resulted in at least 3,636 documented deaths inside Iran, including 1,701 civilians, according to Human Rights Activists in Iran. More than 26,500 people have been injured in Iran alone, including at least 4,000 women and 1,621 children. In Lebanon, at least 2,882 people have been killed and 8,768 wounded by Israeli strikes. The Pentagon told Congress the war has cost approximately $29 billion so far — with 13 U.S. service members confirmed killed and 381 wounded. On the diplomatic front, Lebanon and Israel are scheduled to hold another round of direct talks in Washington today as the Trump administration pushes for a breakthrough between the two neighbors.Hantavirus Cruise Ship Outbreak Grows to 11 Cases, 3 DeadInternational health officials are tracking a spreading hantavirus cluster linked to a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean. The outbreak now stands at 11 cases — 9 confirmed and 2 probable — with 3 deaths. A French woman who contracted the virus is critically ill and being kept alive on an artificial lung. The MV Hondius, a Dutch-flagged vessel with passengers from 23 countries, is believed to be the transmission hub. The virus, identified as the Andes strain, was likely contracted by an initial couple who visited Argentina and may have been exposed to infected rodents at a garbage dump during a birdwatching tour. Andes hantavirus is unusual because it may — in rare cases — spread between people, complicating the global response. The WHO Director General stated there is currently no sign of a larger outbreak, but health agencies in multiple countries are actively monitoring travelers.---💻 THE TECH CONNECTION────────────────────────────────_What's moving in AI and emerging tech._Baidu Declares We Are Now in the Age of AI Agents — Not Just AI Models(continued in YouTube show notes)
