Morning — July 8 — 1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. — 1 John 1:9The promise of 1 John 1:9 rests not on the intensity of our confession but on the faithfulness and justice of God — He forgives because He has already dealt with sin at the cross, and He cleanses because Christ's blood never loses its power. Confession is not a work that earns forgiveness but the honest acknowledgment that we need what God has already promised to give. The same God who is faithful to His covenant promises is just to apply Christ's atoning work to every sin we bring into the light. This means we never exhaust God's patience; we only discover new depths of His grace as we uncover new depths of our need.
