Offenses and the True Nature of the Kingdom. In Luke 17, Jesus speaks to the consequences of both being offended and causing offense. He goes on to address the coming of the kingdom as not something to be outwardly observed but inwardly realized. This flew in the face of the Pharisee’s mindset and the mindset of many in Christianity. Jesus then insists that the kingdom will come as “lightning from one part of heaven to another.” When we understand what kind of lightning phenomena He is speaking of, it will inform us of the nature of the coming of the kingdom.
