Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A brief silence is kept Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The sea is his, for he made it,* and his hands have molded the dry land.   O come, let us worship and bow down,* and kneel before the Lord our Maker. For he is our God,* and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice,* do not harden your heart as in the rebellion.   O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;* let the whole earth stand in awe of him. For he comes, for he comes to judge the earth* and with righteousness to judge the world and the peoples in his faithfulness.   Psalter The appointed Psalm is read together Psalm 71:17-24 O God, from my youth you have taught me, * and to this day I declare your wondrous works. So even to old age and gray hairs, * O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to the next generation, * your power to all those to come. Your righteousness, O God, * reaches the high heavens. You who have done great things, * O God, who is like you? You who have made me see many troubles and calamities * will revive me again; and from the depths of the earth * you will bring me up again. You will increase my greatness * and comfort me again. Also, I will praise you with the harp * for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to you with the lyre, * O Holy One of Israel. My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; * my soul also, which you have redeemed. And my tongue will tell of your righteousness * all the day long, for they have been put to shame and confounded * who sought to do me harm.
