Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A brief silence is kept Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The sea is his, for he made it,* and his hands have molded the dry land.   O come, let us worship and bow down,* and kneel before the Lord our Maker. For he is our God,* and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice,* do not harden your heart as in the rebellion.   O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;* let the whole earth stand in awe of him. For he comes, for he comes to judge the earth* and with righteousness to judge the world and the peoples in his faithfulness.   Psalter The appointed Psalm is read together Psalm 121 1  I lift up my eyes to the mountains. * From where is my help to come? 2  My help comes from the LORD, * the maker of heaven and earth. 3  He will not let your foot be moved; * he who watches over you will not slumber. 4  Behold, he who watches over Israel * will neither slumber nor sleep. 5  The LORD watches over you; * the LORD is your shade at your right hand. 6  The sun shall not strike you by day, * nor the moon by night. 7  The LORD will keep you from all evil; * he will watch over your life. 8  The LORD will watch over your going out and your coming in * from this time forth, and forevermore. † Composite   After the Psalm, the Officiant begins Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.   The Lessons A reading of the appointed lessons Jeremiah 24 24 After Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had taken into exile from Jerusalem Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, together with the officials of Judah, the craftsmen, and the metal workers, and had brought them to Babylon, the LORD showed me this vision: behold, two baskets of figs placed before the temple of the LORD.
