Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A brief silence is kept Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The sea is his, for he made it,* and his hands have molded the dry land.   O come, let us worship and bow down,* and kneel before the Lord our Maker. For he is our God,* and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice,* do not harden your heart as in the rebellion.   O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;* let the whole earth stand in awe of him. For he comes, for he comes to judge the earth* and with righteousness to judge the world and the peoples in his faithfulness.   Psalter The appointed Psalm is read together Psalm 42 1  As a deer pants for streams of water, * so my soul longs after you, O God. 2  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. * When shall I come and appear before God? 3  My tears have been my food * day and night, 3  while they say to me all the day long, * “Where is your God?” 4  These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the multitude * and lead them in procession to the house of God 4  with a voice of joy and songs of praise, * a multitude keeping festival. 5  Why are you cast down, O my soul, * and why are you in turmoil within me? 5  Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, * my salvation and my God. 6  My soul is cast down within me; * therefore I will remember you 6  from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, * from Mount Mizar. 7  Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; * all your breakers and your waves have gone over me. 8  By day the LORD commands his mercy, and in the night his song is with me, * a prayer to the God of my life. 9  I will say to God, my rock: * “Why have you forgotten me? 9  Why must I go about mourning * because of the oppression of the enemy?” 10  As with a breaking of my bones, * my adversaries taunt me, 10  while they say to me all the day long, *
