Now, more than ever, we have to trust our employees to win the day. We literally are sending them ‘out there’ to succeed with their talents and the tools we provide. Professional athletes know what is expected of them, they have the freedom to apply their judgement and skills, and they over-communicate with their team members. We definitely can’t succeed on our own. Great managers don’t try and control everything, they become just as articulate about describing excellence as they are about describing failure. In today’s environment, creating a team culture and process that focuses both on performance and dignity of teammates will win the game. It is time to be more human than human.
