In Casablanca, I wandered the modern streets, marveled at the Hassan II Mosque, and tasted camel and lamb grilled to perfection. Then I headed to Essaouira, where my first impressions were equal parts awe and fear—getting oriented in the medina, exploring the ramparts and port, and wandering the labyrinthine streets until I felt like I had the city in my head. I share the joy of meeting travelers and locals alike at the Atlantic Hostel, language mix-ups, and the unforgettable generosity of Momo.
