Another wonderful voice and the vivacious and bubbly soul that is Michelle C. Michelle shares her story of primary cancer and as with every one of our voices, her story offers very poignant insights into breast awareness. It was through the fantastic rare opportunity that a brilliant nurse took the opportunity during a routine smear to have a discussion about breast examination with Michelle. More importantly - the nurse educated Michelle on the importance of also examining lying down as well as upright. The very next month Michelle implemented this technique and found a lump. What transpired was three different cancer tumours in the same breast but were found before any spread. After a mastectomy, reconstruction, chemo/radiotherapy Michelle went on to get the all clear one year later. We also talk about the very rarely spoken about topic of women's choice on having children and the right to choose and take ownership of our bodies. A brilliant, light hearted chat about health awareness, giving advice to men about being breast aware from behind the bar at Michelle's pub and how to be grateful to your body for fighting to protect you.
