Mother shot to death during child custody swap in Upper Darby

The KYW Newsradio All-Local: Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025 (Morning Edition): Delaware State Police have identified the man they say shot and killed a state trooper at a Wilmington DMV office earlier this week. They are also giving more details about what happened. Here’s KYW Newsradio's Crime and Justice reporter Kristen Johanson: ***** A woman is dead after she was shot Friday afternoon during a child custody swap in Upper Darby. Authorities say the 34-year-old woman arrived at an address on Copley Road in Upper Darby near Walnut Street to pick up her three kids from a 45-year-old man. They say she got into an argument with the man, and he pulled out a gun and shot her. Police say he then turned the gun on himself. ***** A man was shot and killed in North Philly in what police are describing as a shootout. Police say officers heard gunshots around 20th and Susquehanna streets a little before 5 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, the police say they found a 35-year-old who had been shot several times. Police say they rushed him to the hospital, where he was soon pronounced dead. Police Inspector D.F. Pace says police believe the victim and one other person got into a shootout, but other people were in the area. He said one person then got into the victim's car and drove off. ***** In April, a man tried to kill Gov. Josh Shapiro. The man broke into the Governor’s Mansion in Harrisburg, armed with Molotov cocktails and a hammer, set fire to a dining area, then fled when he was unable to break through a door where the governor and his family were sleeping. Shapiro, who is Jewish, had hosted Passover that evening. KYW Newsradio's Suburban Bureau Chief Jim Melwert takes a look back.
