MOTHER - Tyler The Creator
from Sound Waves Hosted by Jaxon Olumide
"MOTHER" from Tyler, The Creator’s latest album, "CHROMAKOPIA," hits that perfect blend of raw honesty and cheeky swagger that Tyler’s known for. The track opens with a voicemail from his mum, Bonita Smith, laying down her tough-love wisdom, and Tyler picks up from there, reflecting on the gritty realities of his upbringing. There’s an edge here, with Tyler calling out the cycles of violence and dead-ends he’s managed to avoid, but it’s not preachy—just straight talk from someone who’s lived it. Lines like, “Duh, b****, I turned out fine” balance Tyler’s hard-earned confidence with humour, all set to a production that keeps you on your toes. It’s a rare look into his world, messy and complicated but brimming with resilience and Tyler’s unmistakable flair.
