Motive unknown for copilot who stabbed captain on FlyDubai flight bound for Israel
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
Passengers on the flight from Dubai to Israel say they wrestled the copilot to stop him from stabbing his captain. The attack happened about two hours into the flight and put the plane in a sharp nosedive. It quickly dropped about 16,000 feet at a speed of 700 miles per hour. The wounded pilot managed to send out distress signals alerting authorities of a hijacking. He was then able to open the cockpit door and yell for help. One of the passengers put the attacker into a chokehold. The plane made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. Pieces of the tail were ripped off during the big descent. Aviation experts are astonished the plane didn't crash. The attacker was arrested. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told CNN he's an Omani national and is being interrogated by Saudis. There were about 175 people on the plane, most of them Israelis. They all got on another flight to take them to Tel Aviv, where they were greeted by loved ones. (Photo by Erik Marmor/Getty Images)
