Mount Royal Cross Gets Major Upgrade

Montreal’s iconic Mount Royal cross will go dark for over a year starting late September 2026 as crews overhaul its aging steel and electrical systems — but don’t worry, the trail’s still open for hiking and views. The city’s upgrading the lighting to modern, white LEDs that honor the original 1924 design, aiming to restore the landmark’s classic glow before winter 2027. This major project blends heritage preservation with future-proof tech, ensuring the cross stays a timeless beacon for generations.
