Hi, I'm Holly and I'm Haley. Welcome to Mountain Mysteries Tales from Appalachia. Smell your font, so... Because you're blind.

I'm gonna turn a little slight. Okay, I know I don't have a foot. Are you ready for an episode to beat all episodes? I don't know if I am.

I think they are. Okay. This episode is Patreon Quiz. Nice.

Yes, so Patreon Quiz is an episode in which Haley and I quiz each other on the various episodes that we have aired of this podcast. Here's the thing, I am not sure that either of us are gonna do very well. I don't think we are. I don't think we are.

We briefly talked about this before we started recording about kind of what the nature of our questions were. Both of us did drastically different things and neither of us are prepared for what the other one did. No, which is, I mean, it's kind of to the point and so you get to see who knows the podcast better, Haley or Holly. I'm gonna go ahead and say Holly.

I'm gonna say neither. We will fail. So we will see. We will see.

So I think we're gonna start off this episode with each throwing some questions out at each other. We're gonna see how we do and we may put this into another Patreon. So like a small mini one. Yeah, you'll have this.

Maybe you'll have a full one that all y'all get and then if we don't get through all of them we'll slide on the first one. Do a small one. This way everybody gets to share in our trivia. Enjoying our misery of losing our loserie.

Yes, for sure. Okay. First ones are real pretty easy. Okay, so I'm gonna start with you then.

Alright, so Haley, the questions that I have are name the title of the episode and you cannot look. You cannot cheat. No, okay. Alright, as a matter of fact, you don't have it pulled up, right?

No, I have my, I'm showing Holly my screen. I have my questions. And you know what she said? She's a real asshole.

She said, I said, well, I'm gonna turn my screen so you can't see where I wrote my answers and she said, oh, I just use a small font so I need one of these. Anyway, like, and she's a jerk. Am I wrong? She's not wrong.

Is she a jerk? Does she have 13 year old eyes that are 13 year less? I don't know. The point is she jumped her than me.

She doesn't have age on her eyes and I do. Alright. Well, in my sight, I have terrible vision, but I can see up like even without contacts or glasses on, I can see up close really well. Wait until you start aging.

I can't see far away. I can't see far away either, but now it's starting to affect closer up. Oh, now I'm nervous. Yeah.

Alright, here we go. So you're gonna name the title of the episode. Alright, so episode 25 features. I'm gonna tell you what it's about.

Oh, it's not just what it is. Oh, no. Calm down. Alright, so you also know that this episode is early.

Yeah. Alright, so episode 25 features a story of a woman who removed her husband's penis after suffering years of physical and sexual abuse. What is the name of this episode? So I threw around so many options for this one and I remember this episode.

This is the Lorena Bob episode. Yeah, it is. Mm hmm. That's the sound he made.

But more. Oh screaming. The missing piece. I feel like I remember I was throwing around.

I'm missing so many like really vulgar ones. It's all I got. No. The disappearing member.

No, that's not it. That's not it. I was like, what's that? Alright, do you want me to give you some options and see?

Yes. Okay, let's multiple choices thing. Okay. Option A is that cutting the sliver.

Option B, is it making the cut or option C disappearing member? Making the cut. Making the cut. It is making the cut.

But we had so many good options for that one. We did. We did. We threw around a lot.

Yeah. Yeah. I feel like there was so many. Was it cleaver?

Yeah. There were just a lot of things. There were a lot of things. But I felt like making the cut was a little bit better.

That's a little more creative on some of our titles. We're now we're just kind of like that sounds good. And it's like we don't. Yeah.

Yeah. Don't have the time. Alright, you do me. Okay.

Okay. My turn. Mine is the first one super easy. What hospital did Zelda Fitzgerald die in?

Well that's easy. Highland Hospital. In Asheville, North Carolina. Yeah.

That was recent, right? That was yes. I would say that that was probably sometime this summer or fall. Yeah.

Like so 2022. But I learned a lot more about her than me too. That's actually a favorite of mine. Just because it was fun.

And we learned that there was a lot of syphilis and sexual things going around. Syphilis. And that he actually would steal her diary and use it to like write his books. Like he would take her writings.

That's pretty asshole. Yeah. Yeah. Dear diary.

And I think someone has syphilis. It was a dear diary. The herb has been bad. Finally the cream has been working.

You know something to that effect. It was very fun. Yeah. I like that episode.

Alright. You ready? Yeah. Again, this is name that title.

Alright. When Abel Clemens murdered his wife and eight children in 1805, he claimed that he wasn't right in the head. Spurring Holly and Haley to think he had a traumatic brain injury. This episode aired in May of 2022.

What was the title? I saw this one the other day when I was looking through the episode. Brainstorms? You're so close.

Brainstorms made him do it. Yes! You got it. I thought I was scrolling through because then I get confused.

I was getting confused on who did what episode. Like I was looking at that one and I did that one or did I. But then that one was. I can usually remember.

So you know my mom is way behind. And she said, I just, you know, listen to this one and she told me what it was. And I said, oh yeah, that was Haley's episode. And she's like, oh wow, how do you remember who did what?

And I said, well usually I can remember my stories versus hers, but sometimes a lot of them are similar and they get kind of mucky. Yeah. Yeah. Good job.

Yeah. Alright. I'm ready. Oh, that's a good one.

The original name. I feel like it was like the Western North Carolina Sanatorium or something. You're close. Western Carolina Sanatorium.

Asylum for the criminally insane or something like that. Western Carolina insane asylum. Insane asylum. Okay.

Yeah. Hey, not too sure. Yeah, I would not have known that. And I was like, I don't know if this is a fair question because I don't know if we even mentioned it in episode.

I think we did because it was my episode. Yeah. So I'm sure I'd, you know, I'd research that like obsessive and it leads me down one track and back and forth and a little crazy. Yeah.

Alright, Haley, this is still name this episode. When CIA agent Chris is used to trick a young girl's parents into saying that she had been bullied her parents responded with murder. This episode aired September of 2021. What was it called?

Okay, read it again. When CIA agent Chris is used to trick a young girl's parents into believing she was bullied her parents responded with murder. This episode aired in September of 2021. What was it called?

So it's the catfish one. There's a cat. This is, yes. Catfish what?

Catfish catfish killer catfish murder catfish katfish murder catfish murder catfish murder catfish murder converters cuz it was two people. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that one. I was like, I don't even remember.

It was so weird. It was about this, you know, individual who claimed that she was being bullied and ended Janelle, was her name and she ended up saying that she was bullied online showing her family like look and her dad resorted to murder to get after these boys. And it turns out that it was even real right? And there was, you know, agent Chris who was helping her.

Yeah, yeah, just really weird. So that was very sad. Like for the people that were murdered. And they had a young child.

Yeah. And I was at high school or something like that. At one point, they were all out of school at this time. Yeah, because they were like in the early 30s.

I don't think they went to high school. I think it was that she had had a relationship or wanted to have a relationship with the guy. Something to that effect. And she was jealous of the girl.

I don't really remember at all. Yeah. Yeah. We need to go back and listen to her.

I was like, oh, we know. We're pretty stupid. We do the research stuff and research a crap out of these things. Talk about them and then completely remove them from our game.

Well, because then you know you're only as good as your next story. Don't you know? We sound like some kind of newspaper writers. All right, I'm ready.

That would be your turn. That was my turn. OK, let's listen. OK, what was the name of the little boy who disappeared in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1962?

Dennis Martin. And the episode was called the Mysterious Disappearance of Dennis Martin. That was a pretty early one. That was probably February of 2021, maybe.

Yeah. Well, say I don't have my trip to you to have so many disappearances in the Great Smoky Mountains. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, it's like there's so many.

And that one's still pretty cool because no one's ever found him. Yeah, and that's one of those like there's so many theories, but also like with the Great Smoky Mountains and Appalachian Trail and everything, it doesn't make any sense to me how someone just steps off and is gone. It's gone. And you know, part of why I remember episodes is I can remember where we recorded them.

So I remember that one because I know we recorded it at my old house sitting in my living room while my son was asleep. Oh, yeah. I remember that. Oh, I keep forgetting about your old house.

Yeah. And then so like it's just really interesting because it takes me back to where we were. Who was it on the floor? And you know our Olive Garden.

That's right. And then we would be car filled and we would record. Yeah, so we had to change credit. Yeah, we should.

That's been a long time. Next time. If we get to record soon at my house, maybe make it happen. Yeah, we'll make it happen.

Because we usually record at your house in the morning. So that's not Olive Garden appropriate. So anyway, all right. Are you ready?

Yeah. This is named that episode. In episode 15, when a couple decided to take a short vacation, they stumbled upon urinating aliens. Name that episode.

Urinating aliens. Blind Saucers and Belly Button Pro. Yes. It did.

So that episode aired in like, I think January of 2021, or late December of 2020. But anyway, basically, it was the episode where the couple said, you know, we were stopped by the aliens. They were urinating and staring at us. And then they had taken us up in the spaceship and were probing our belly buttons in genitalia.

I remembered the belly button part. But I couldn't remember the first part of that episode. I was like, it's belly button something or something in belly button. Blind Saucers and Belly Button Pro.

Good job. See it from the number of these. All right. I'm ready.

All right. At the chapel of rest, why did the pastor kill himself? I believe he was having an affair. Close.

He had, I think he left the children. OK. Wait. His wife had died?

His wife had the affair. Why have you had the affair? It was pregnant. Yes.

OK. His wife had the affair, and she was pregnant by the other man. I think so, yes. I just had his wife was hept cheating on him.

Yes. OK. We'll go with the pregnancy piece too. I'm pretty sure she was.

Yeah. Well, and it's easily accessible. And you can still see, I think, where the rope was high. You know, because he hanged himself right before the Saturday night.

And I found him as they were coming to trouble. I was like, that was an episode given to me by my friend, Brunette Meghan, who said, hey, have you done this? And I was like, no. So I did that one.

So that's Brunette Meghan. Yeah. That's all of them. All right.

Are you ready? So this is my last one for you for this episode, I think, right? We did do a couple more. OK.

So in episode six, when a family was murdered in a random act of violence in Heywood County, North Carolina, it was discovered. It was a robbery gone bad. This is episode six. So we're talking 2020.

It was a while ago. OK. Ready to go. In episode six, when a family was murdered in a random act of violence in Heywood County, North Carolina, it was discovered that it was a robbery gone bad.

Did you do this one or did I do this one? You did this one. Is this Rob skin road? What's the full title?

Murder on Rob skin road. That is correct. Hey, look at you. That's right.

This was the episode of the guys who were like stealing. They couldn't get the car. Their car kept breaking down and kept wrecking. And so really, they were only going on the street to steal a car and they came in front of this family and then had to kill them.

Yeah. Yeah. And that one was actually recommended by my mother. I love Ray.

I recommend that one. That's right. She did. Because she remembered the story of it.

And I was driving out to Bryson City the other day, which is in what county is Bryson City in? Makeup? Nope. Jackson.

Jackson County. So I had to go through Heywood to get there. And the whole time I was driving through there I was thinking about rabbit skin roads. Because it's right off the interstate.

Did you go past it? I don't know if I did or not. But I assume I did. Because I crossed the whole freaking county from the interstate to get to Jackson County.

Across many a county that day. Often do. Sometimes my old job I used to. Yeah.

Oh, yeah. Trips are many a county. For sure. OK.

All right. Do this one. This one's really easy. What famous author may be connected to the Pink Lady from the Grove Park Inn?

That's easy. Fits Gerald that bastard. Fits Gerald. Fits Gerald.

And he, yeah, because he was where was he in relation to that? He was at Grove Park when she died or something like that? Or something like that? Yeah.

Something to that effect. That he may have something to do with. But actually he's more tied to the battery park. That's right.

Not really the Grove Park. It's not battery park. But there was some type of link with him in the Pink Lady. Gosh, we're just going to get him for everything.

I know. He's always all in college. Ah. Yeah.

For sure. OK. We're at like 18. OK.

A couple more. OK. All right, Hayley. All right.

So this episode is a tragic case of the Hendricks family. Seemingly, normal kids snapped and murdered his entire family. Ooh. This was your story.

I remember the story. And it aired in December of 2021, named that episode. He killed his family, and then he took off. And they found him in what, like, Maine or?

He could have stand off with the police. Yeah. And he was killed. Oh.

Church going kid. Church going kid. He was adopted. I'll give you all the details.

The parents were social workers or one of them was a social worker. Love is called. He played the acoustic guitar. That's right.

Oh my gosh. I have no idea. Nature versus nurture. Ah, yeah.

What's the dad like a beekeeper or something? Two versus about bees. Remember random facts. I remember random facts.

Details about it, but I cannot for the life of me tell you what it was called. Nature versus nurture. Nature versus nurture. We talked about that whole, like he was raised so well, and lovingly in this.

Seemingly. Seemingly. Well, true. We only know what we know.

It could have been crazy. Crazy time. OK, your turn. I'm ready.

OK. In the episode, surprise a funeral. What condition did the girl in the grave probably have? Epilepsy.

Yeah. I love that episode. Me too. It's so weird.

It is very odd. That was the girl who they thought was dead. In the 30s, 20s, something like that. And they went to go and bury her and she like set up.

Yeah. And as a former epileptic myself, that terrorized me. Yeah. I mean, it seemed like she had no signs of life.

And her sister had like raced to get there for the funeral. And she begged them to open the casket. Yes. Please just let me say goodbye to her.

And they did. And she sat right up. And she was like, what happened? That's so scary.

That's so scary. I love it. All right. Well, she got.

All right, name this episode. So this episode aired April 1, 2021. So this is a cold case out of Maine. Holly and Haley discussed the columbziness, their clumsiness, and how Haley shares a story about life on the farm.

Basically, this is a young girl who goes missing after a beach trip with her family. Her dad was actually an FBI agent. What was the name of this story? And it was in Maine.

In Maine, almost two years ago. Yeah. It was the name of that one. She was riding her bike.

Someone picked her up in a maroon color car. Beach town. Oh, man. She's on a barn.

She was on a barn. Yeah. I've never found her killer. Oh, gosh.

Gone too soon. I don't know. The episode is, who murdered me? Man, you did not like that one.

All right. Yeah, great question. That was a great question because you didn't get it. No.

That's what I'm saying. Who murdered me is a great question. Yeah. Figure that out.

All right. Good news. That's not out. OK.

Where were the blue people from? Kentucky. Yes, but where in Kentucky? Geez.

It's a fun little name. I don't know. Troublesome Creek. Troublesome Creek.

That sounds right. That sounds right. Yes. When I was looking that up, because I know we talked about it, and they already in our episode, I was looking for an article.

And there's all kinds of newly published articles and journals of Germanology. Really? Yeah. About these blue people.

And what type of skin condition they might have had. Wow. So who knew? I thought that was super interesting.

OK. I'm going to do another one. Are we going to save some? Well, I've got one more to give you.

OK. And then if you want to save the last three. OK. This episode aired December 10 of 2020.

So this is a real oldie. This is the story of the mother who was accused and then convicted of murdering her two sons in South Carolina. Name this episode. But she started off her story by claiming that her children had been kidnapped and going on live television.

Yes. This is her name was Susan Smith. She is actually coming up for parole pretty soon. Please find my babies.

Please find my babies. It was a quote. That's what she said. Please find my boy.

Yes. And she had murdered him. Yes. It's a gross lady.

She 100%. Well, yeah. Because she wouldn't she. They drove to the lake.

And she was going to drive in with them. And then she was going to commit suicide, because her boyfriend had broken up with her. She had kids, and he didn't want kids. And then suddenly she put it in neutral, got out, and let the car.

Go. Her kids are screaming inside. Oh my god. Yep.

Wow. What a crappy one to end. Oh, wow. I'm like, maybe I should give you one more.

That's maybe a little more. A little bit lighter. A little bit lighter. Some of our stories are not the lightest.

It's so dark. Let me see. I'm going to go on. I will.

Oh, I will. Don't you forget? Let's see. That makes no sense.

Oh, here's one. OK. All right. Oh, no.

That one's too easy. Right. Hate to get me an easy one. Oh, no.

When a girl is mysteriously killed, she states, her mother states, that she was able to find the killer due to the help of her dead daughter. This is in West Virginia. Yeah. Air December 30th, 2021.

Yeah. Oh, oh, man. Oh, man. I don't know.

Help from a ghost. The Greenbrier Ghost. The Greenbrier Ghost. Yep.

And there's a road sign about her placard. Well, interesting. Yeah. So you guys have learned in this episode that we're both stupid.

And we did better than I thought. Yeah. Yeah. So I think we're going to do a mini patreon.

Yeah. We've got a few left. Yeah. So we will see you over there.

Bye. Bye.
