Katie grew up in eastern Washington running cross country/track and practicing reckless abandon at the skate park, setting the tone for a life of unconventional athletic pursuits.  In 2009, she graduated from Northwest University with a degree in secondary education with an emphasis on health and fitness. She dabbled in education for before finding herself dedicating the vast majority of her time to wildland fire.  She fought wildfires as Hotshot team member for 6 seasons before being selected for a prestigious smokejump team out of Redmond, OR.
