Mountains — Mount of Beatitudes

The Sermon on the Mount can seem impossible: do not even look lustfully, do not even be angry, be perfect as your Father is perfect. This message argues the Beatitudes come first because the gospel's verdict comes before performance. Read as building blocks rather than eight separate sayings, they trace the way in: poor in spirit, the realization that we are spiritually bankrupt; mourning our sin; meekness, handing the reins to Jesus in repentance; hungering for a right standing we cannot earn. Like the Ten Commandments, the later Beatitudes turn outward, mercy, purity, peacemaking, even persecution, describing a transformed life. Throughout, the call is to adore the gospel and live secure in an identity that holds even when we stumble.
