Mountains — Mount of Transfiguration

Having just told the disciples he would suffer and die, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up the mountain and was transfigured, his face and clothing blazing with the glory that was always his on the inside. The vision was meant to strengthen their faith for the dark days ahead. Moses and Elijah, the Law and the Prophets, appeared and spoke with Jesus about the cross, proving the crucifixion was God's plan from the beginning and that the whole story points to him. The Father's voice settled it: This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him. The message draws out that we are as close to Jesus as we want to be, that great things happen when we pray, and that we must not merely hear but do what he says.
