Movie Cage Match #6: Emma Vs. Pride And Prejudice

from The Midnight Film Society · host Damian J Sherman

Pride And Prejudice (Bohemian Rhapsody) Mr. Collins is an incel. Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) is great as Mr. Darcy. Could Mary Bennet be more emo. Dance hall scenes were incredibly shot. Mr Bingley has definitely killed someone. Gorgeous shot at the end with Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. Emma. (Rocketman) Bill Nighy (Mr Woodhouse) is an amazing, comedic delight. Did you know Clueless was an Emma adaptation? VISUALLY SUMPTUOUS Emma Woodhouse (Anya-Taylor Joy) Mia Goth (Harriet Smith) is weird looking, needs makeup, more eyebrows. Glad weird looking people are getting acting jobs. Gemma Whelan (Miss Taylor / Mrs. Weston) who played Yara Greyjoy, was great. Great Costume Design By Alexandra Byrne Johnny Flynn (Mr. Knightly) gives me slight Heath Ledger vibes. Reminds me a lot of The Favorite. Miss Bates (Miranda Hart) was hilarious. Why do they call women handsome? Servants acting awkwardly. 20 minutes in and I  like this so much more than P&P, a lot funnier and livier. Both movies (Jane Austin in general) is almost Shakesperian in its challenge to understand it’s dialogue. The part where Mr. Elton reveals the painting in the frame. Hilarious when Miss Fairfax plays the piano. Mr Elton is my favorite character. Reminds me of Dennis from It’s Always Sunny. The implication. Jenga with sand? John Knightley has a great dead inside face. His wife is Isabella, nagging. Love the music, has Up vibes. Gorgeous cinematography, when Emma and Harriet are taking the carriage up the hill to Mrs. Weston’s house. Mrs. Augusta Elton is a fucking weirdo. Looks like a bird. Mr. Woodhouse and the drafts. Who were The Handmaiden looking women in red? Mr . Knightly coming out of the bath putting on the social armor of class and status. - Waypoint Quote. Did Frank Churchill murder his Aunt? Has a secret relationship with Jane Fairfax? Most horniness dance scene ever? Touch starved characters. Emma is the only character without gloves.
