MTN’s Dabengwa Data Centre Opens; Eskom wants Crypto Money; Airtel vs mPesa; and Wave’s $137 Debt Raise

from Africa Tech Radio · host africatechradio.com

While MTN plans to rival services offered Microsoft Azure, Google and Amazon with its new $120 million data centre in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria named after Sifiso Dabengwa, Eskom plans to service crypto and blockchain services. Could this help pay off Eskom’s billion rand debt? Can Eskom even service high energy demanding crypto services? Also, Airtel seems to be biting off mPesa’s big pie in Kenya as Airtel gain more market share while Safaricom’s mPesa loses. Nonetheless, mPesa is still the giant in the room, controlling more than half of the market. Wave just announced another big raise and this unicorn isn’t backing down anytime soon. This good news comes just as we receive news about some startups that also saw good funding rounds close up just a few weeks back.
