Mughal Empire

In this episode, we explore the Mughal Empire, a powerful early modern dynasty that ruled much of South Asia from 1526 to 1857. Beginning with Babur’s Central Asian roots and military conquests, we trace the empire’s rise through the reigns of Akbar, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb, highlighting its centralized administration, land-revenue reforms, gunpowder warfare, and thriving proto-industrial economy. We also examine the Mughals’ cultural legacy, from Indo-Persian literature and the growth of Hindustani to monumental architecture such as the Taj Mahal, before looking at the empire’s fragmentation, reduction to a ceremonial power, and final dissolution under the British Raj.
