Mughal Prince Shah Shuja: Bengal's Rebel Governor

The second son of Emperor Shah Jahan, Shuja governed the province with surprising autonomy, striking his own coins and even entertaining ambitions of succession. When the War of Succession broke out after Shah Jahan's illness, Shuja marched west to claim the throne, only to be defeated by Aurangzeb at the Battle of Khajwa in 1659. Forced to flee, he found refuge in Arakan (present-day Rakhine State, Myanmar), where he met a mysterious end — possibly killed by his hosts or lost in the jungles.
