Mum writes book about differences to support son with Autism Spectrum Disorder & change perceptions, with Misa Alexander.

from Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond · host PBB Media Incorporated

Today on the show we have a beautiful guest with us, Misa Alexander, a Canadian that calls our beloved Byron shire, home. Misa is a graphic designer and Artist who has worked around the world in various roles as a designer. She is also a mother of 3 beautiful boys one of whom is Autistic. We will be discussing the way we perceive disabilities. We will also be discussing her journey as a mother of a child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disability. One of the aspects that most affect children with ASD is their ability to interact with their environment. When Misa first sent her son Hugo to pre-school she encountered first hand the effect of 'empowering his environment' – his teachers, the parents of children attending and the children themselves – to understand Hugo better and ultimately create a space where he belonged. Since then, Misa and her dear friend Erin Knutt have been working to create a visual expression of what it looks and feels like to both be; supported by your environment and be; the support needed for children with any disability to feel connected and a part of their community. We also spoke about the correlation between Gut Health and ADS and how treatment for her son has included testing his gut & supporting him through diet, microbial aspects and fat absorption support. To support their inspiring project Fergus & Delilah in shaping a generation's view on disabilities go to their website:http://fergus-delilah.comTheir Campaign runs from 30 days from the 20th of October 2015, make sure to check in during that time for best impact. Also like them up on facebook at:https://www.facebook.com/FergusDelilahCampaignFor further information if you are in Australia:https://www.autismspectrum.org.auFor further information on Microbiome & gut health research in relation to Autism Spectrum Disorder visit the following research papers (free):http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3700858/http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3072352/http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4591364/http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21555957There are many more research paper, please do your own reaserch for specific informaiton. Thanks for tuning in,Annalee & the pregnancy Birth & Beyond team.Produced and Presented by Annalee Atia for PBB MediaCopyright Annalee Atia, PBB Media
