Municipal debt threatens Eskom’s financial recovery

Eskom has more than doubled its annual profit to R30.3 billion, while improved generation and lower diesel use have helped keep load shedding largely at bay. But electricity sales are falling and municipal debt has climbed to about R119 billion, with several municipalities now facing a deadline to reach distribution agreements with the utility.
