from Obscura: A True Crime Podcast · host Justin Drown

The fire that revealed a teenage nightmare in Madison, Indiana. Shanda Sharer's brutal end left no heart untouched. BLACK LABEL CONTENT — Premium subscribers only The chilling morning of January 11, 1992, saw the discovery of a young girl's charred remains, setting the stage for a dark narrative of peer cruelty. Shanda Sharer, just twelve, was vibrant and hopeful. Her life was cut short in an event stitched together by envy and manipulation. Her murder, directed by seemingly normal teenagers, involved acts of unthinkable savagery. The crime, driven by callous adolescent rivalry and peer influence, perplexed even the seasoned investigators. The investigation uncovered layers of deception, revealing a conspiracy woven by four teenage girls. Using Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy' as a psychological weapon, their cruelty was orchestrated with precision. Interrogation tapes captured the unsettling confessions, shedding light on the morbid group dynamics. Spearheaded by Melinda Loveless, the plot involved significant premeditation. The court proceedings, marked by chilling testimonies and vivid recollections, revealed the nightmarish events leading to Shanda's demise. Loveless was sentenced to 60 years, while her accomplices received various terms. The case remains a chilling reminder of juvenile vulnerability and malicious persuasion. Listener discretion advised. This Black Label episode features graphic court recordings and police interrogations. The chilly midwinter morning of 11 January 1992 in southern Indiana was shaping up to be ideal for quail hunting. At around 10:45am on the outskirts of Jefferson Proving Ground just outside the town of Madison, two brothers caught sight of something off the side of Lemon Road as they drove along. The men jumped out of their pickup and walked through an isolated open field toward what looked like a department store mannequin laying on the ground. It was a strange location to stumble upon something so out of place. But as the men moved closer, their confusion turned to horror...Visit us online at ObscuraCrimePodcast.com Checkout our other podcasts at itsArcLightMedia.com Support the Obscura podcast and access the exclusive Black Label episodes by becoming a Patron at Patreon.com/obscuracrimepodcast (Sources can be found on our website) Our Sponsors: * Check out BetterHelp: https://betterhelp.com * Check out Chime: https://chime.com/OBSCURA * Check out Chime: https://www.chime.com * Check out Mood and use my code OBSCURA for a great deal: https://mood.com * Check out Quince: https://quince.com/obscura * Check out Time4Learning: https://www.time4learning.com * Check out TruDiagnostic and use my code OBSCURA20 for a great deal: https://www.trudiagnostic.com Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/obscura-a-true-crime-podcast/exclusive-content Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
