Hello, welcome back to another episode of Broken Record. My name is Ellie. I'm your host, and today we are going to be talking about events and things that have happened within the music industry recently. So first thing I want to talk about is touring.
Olivia Rodrigo announced that she's going on tour, which is super exciting. Olivia Rodrigo is a big name. I'm sure you've heard it on the radio, or maybe you've heard her songs on TV, maybe you saw her win an award. She is a big household name, and Olivia is also on the Disney Plus original show, High School Musical The Musical series, where she stars as Nini, and so she's been with Disney for a while now, and she has released songs with Disney, and her first song that she released solo was Driver's License, which is one of her biggest songs.
She released it this January, and so she's going on tour, which is super exciting for her album Sour, and she's going to be playing 49 shows, which is incredible for your first tour. She's going to the US, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, Ireland, UK, like she's going everywhere. She has Gracie Abrams, Holly Humberstone, and Baby Queen opening for her, and then it's incredible. It's so cool that her first ever tour is so big and so incredible.
Because a lot of artists don't even get to tour, and when they do it's like six shows, and hers is so big. And it's her first tour. I'm so proud of her. Like that's awesome.
Another band that's going on tour that is a lot older than Olivia, or like has been in the music industry longer, is Five Seconds of Summer. They really, they announced they were going on tour. It's called the 2022 tour. They're going to North America, Europe, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.
They're doing 61 shows, and that is so many shows. That is a lot of touring. I commend them for doing that many shows. That sounds really tiring, but what they do, and that's awesome.
They recently celebrated their 10-year anniversary, which is super cool. They've been band since 2011. And yeah, I'm sure you've heard some of their songs. They sing Young Blood, and yeah, the next thing I want to talk about is Adele doing a Las Vegas residency.
Adele is doing something called Weekends with Adele in Las Vegas. She's there from January to April, and she's only doing shows on the weekends, which is super convenient for her, I'm sure, because then she gets to do stuff during the week, and she isn't trapped down for all four or five months. That she's there. She's doing it at the Colseum at Cesar's Palace, which is really interesting.
That is a 4,000 person venue. That holds 4,000 people. And I find that very interesting, because Adele is such a big name that I would guess that she would go to a bigger venue. But then when you think about it, she's also doing a residency, so she doesn't necessarily have to hold everyone in one night.
She can shred it out, you know? So that's interesting. Another thing I want to talk about is Joshua Bassett. He released a trilogy of singles.
He released Crisis, Set Me Free, and Secrets, all along with a music video for each song. And they are so beautiful. They are so incredible. And so, you can listen to the song, and you can hear the story.
And it's so incredible. And I'm really excited to be able to listen to this body of work that he just released. The music video is also really helping enhance the story. The Secrets music video specifically is so cool.
He plays with lighting a lot in that music video, and it's so interesting to watch and to look at, because the lighting matches the tone, the lighting changes with the beat of the music. It's incredible. Speaking of music, Billy Eilish released a music video for the last track on her album Happier Than Ever, Male Fantasy. It's similar to Joshua Bassett's music video, where it changes with the beats.
Like, the clips. It cuts to a different clip when each beat hits, which is so cool. I love music videos that do that, because it really one enhances the beat, but two, you get to see so much more. And the music, this music video, is so genius and so incredible.
And all Billy's music videos are like this. She's just incredible at producing and directing and writing music videos in general. This music video is so important and so cool to me. It's like, Billy is basically just numb.
Like, she's just numb, and she's laying around the house. She's laying in her bed. She's sitting on the floor. She's brushing her teeth.
She's looking at herself in the mirror. She's doing dishes. She's watching TV. But she's just numb.
She's not having an overly excited or a really dramatic emotion on her face. She's not moving around. She's just like still. And it's such an interesting music video to watch, because generically and stereotypically, music videos are dancing.
They're right colors. There's cool effects. And this is just so simplistic. It really brings a new aspect to that music video.
And another thing that's really cool is the tones. I kind of mentioned this, but there's no vibrant colors in this music video. There's like blue tones and yellow tones and gray tones. But that's really it.
Like, this music video is so cool. And it's so incredible to watch. And it's just all of the music video that Billy produces and comes out with are incredible. But this one specifically just is so eye opening.
Because, like, take, for example, Billy Eilish's music video for Bad Guy and compare it with this music video for Male Fantasy. They're completely different. And again, the songs are completely different. Some of the music videos are different.
But like, in the Bad Guy music video, Billy is rolling around on a purple and yellow carpet. And Billy has bright blue hair. And there's so many extras. And she's playing around a lot.
Versus the Male Fantasy music video where she's not moving around a lot. She's just sitting down. She's like in neutral tones. She doesn't have a strong expression.
She's not singing the words. It's just so cool to take these two pieces of work from the same person and just look at them side by side. And like, this music video is just so brilliant. And it's so interesting to watch.
Because it doesn't seem like a lot. It seems kind of boring. But watching it, it's like, whoa. Like, I relate to that in some way.
But like, I don't know. It's so cool. It's really hard to explain. But this is a brilliant music video.
And I recommend watching it if you can. Yeah. I think that's all I have to talk about. Thank you so much for listening.
