Send us Fan MailRebecca Coronna found her stage name when she was about 19. She lived in Hawaii at the time, and she found the name Shakina and fell in love with it. At one point during a retreat in Hawaii, she introduced herself as Shakina Ma, and the name stuck.She grew up in a family of musicians. Her mother was a singer, her father was a drummer, and her uncles played together in a band. Along with that, her grandfather played the mandolin and her aunts and uncles would sing together at the holidays. She would always go and see music with her family.
