Music Therapy Lowers Certain Narcotic Use in PACU Orthopedic Patients

Did you know? 😲 Many patients wake up in the PACU with strong pain after surgery. Scientists ran a 6-month study in a major Texas hospital. For 3 months they collected normal data. Then they added music therapy for the next 3 months. Patients who listened to music used significantly less Meperidine. They also scored much higher on Press Ganey comfort surveys. This shows music therapy can support better recovery in the PACU. The study was published in the Journal of Perianesthesia Nursing.
